SETH GOLDBERG

In his three seasons as head coach, Seth Goldberg has led St. Paul’s to the MIAA B-Conference Tournament twice.  This season, after finishing with a regular season record of 20-4 overall and 15-0 in conference,  the #1 seeded Crusaders hosted a semifinal game for the first time in almost eight years.  St. Paul’s was also ranked in the Top 10 in the Baltimore Metro area for the first time in school history.  Coach Goldberg also teaches Physical Education at St. Paul’s.

  • Prior to St. Paul’s, Coach Goldberg coached at McDaniel College under the late Bob Flynn.
  • At McDaniel, Seth helped the Green Terror acheive their first 10 win season in over a decade.
  • Prior to McDaniel, Coach Goldberg was at Cardinal Gibbons High School, where he first began working for Coach Flynn. Seth helped to develop players who eventually went on to play at Southern Mississippi State, York College, the Merchant Marine Academy, and North Carolina Central.
  • Coach Goldberg got his start working for Joe Wootten at Bishop O’Connell High School, part of the WCAC. While there, Seth helped to elevate the program from the bottom of the league to national top 25 status (USA TODAY) in 3 short seasons.
  • In 5 years at O’Connell, Coach Goldberg helped to develop players who would go on to play at Maryland, North Carolina, Georgetown, Boise State, St. Joseph’s, Villanova, Louisville, Mississippi State, and Lehigh.
  • Coach Goldberg is a 9 year veteran of Coach Wootten’s Basketball Camp, directed by the nation’s all-time winningest basketball coach and Hall of Famer, Morgan Wootten. Seth has been a mainstay at Coach Wootten’s camp as a coach, commissioner, and guest speaker throughout the years. There is no better place to learn how to run a successful program and basketball camp.

 St. Paul’s Assistant Coach

Jeremy Mellady

Coach Mellady has just completed his 3rd season with the St. Paul’s program and 2nd year as a Science teacher in the Upper School.

  • Coach Mell leads the academic support for the St. Paul’s basketball program by monitoring progress in the classroom and conducting afterschool and evening study halls.
  • During the season, Coach Mell coordinates scouting efforts and assists in the development of game plans, in addition to his work with the players on the court.
  • Off-season duties include player skill development and strength & conditioning.
  • Coach Mell is the Director of the Crusader Shootout which has grown into one of the area’s best youth basketball tournaments.
  • Prior to St. Paul’s, he coached and taught at Overlea and Loch Raven High Schools in Baltimore County for a total of 7 years.
  • Coach Mell has worked at a variety of camps throughout the years, including: Coach Wootten’s Basketball Camp, Eastern Invitational Basketball Camp, Phil Martelli’s Basketball Camp, Jim Calhoun’s Basketball Camp, Villanova Basketball Camp, and the Point Guard College.

 St. Paul’s Assistant Coach

Rick Palmer

Coach Palmer is now finishing his 2nd season as a varsity assistant coach and  assistant to the Athletic Director at St. Paul’s.

  • Coach Palmer is quickly making his name in the Baltimore area as a young coach on the rise through his work ethic and knowledge of the game.
  • Rick is in charge of the program’s efforts to identify prospective student-athletes.
  • Rick has set himself apart as a gifted developer of talent, both in his work with the St. Paul’s players and others.
  • Coach Palmer has also proved to be a valuable resource in the development of technology in our program.
  • Rick played his college ball at Marymount University in northern Virginia.
  • As a high school player at Magruder High School, Rick’s teams won 93 games while losing only 4 in a span of four seasons. In Rick’s junior year, Magruder won the MPSSAA State Championship by going 27-0.

 St. Paul’s Fresh-Soph Coach

Brandon Garry 

Brandon has just finished his 3rd season as the head coach of the Fresh-Soph team.

  • Coach Garry exemplifies the patience and skill necessary to develop the young players who are the future of St. Paul’s basketball.
  • Brandon is also the Lead Scout for the varsity team during the season, and a valuable advisor in the field of technology development.
  • Coach Garry plays an important role in the off-season skill development program.
  • Brandon currently teaches at Mt. Hebron High School.
  • Prior to St. Paul’s, Brandon coached at Osbourne High School in norther Virginia.

 Other coaches will be added this summer…

In past summers, our additional coaches have come from McDaniel College, Widener University, Marymount University, Wake Forest University, Catonsville Community College, and Essex Community College  among others.
